Dr. Daniel Benson, M.D. joins our practice with over 40 years of Orthopedic experience within the community. He was a Professor of Spine Surgery and the Chief of Spine Surgery at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Benson's clinical interests and expertise include spinal deformity and bio mechanics of spine injury, scoliosis in children and other spinal disorders, musculoskeletal pain related to the spine, and the history of medicine. Dr. Benson was also the President of the Scoliosis Research Society, a national organization which is arguably the most respected Scoliosis Society in the country. His research focuses on embryonic development of the spine and wound infection studies. He is board-certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, which is in addition to many other notable scholarly society memberships and offices held past and current.
Dr. Benson is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine and attended the University of Davis for both his General Surgery and Orthopedic Surgical residencies. and Boston University School of Medicine. He completed two fellowships, one in Scoliosis Research and Surgery the the Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago Illinois and the other at Johns Hopkins Medical School Institute of the History of Medicine in Baltimore Maryland
Dr. Benson also has an extensive Military background. Serving in the United State Navy on Active Duty from 1965-67 as a Lieutenant for the Medical Corps, as a General Medical Officer in Vietnam from 1966-1967 in Italy as a a Lieutenant Commander from 1967-69 as well as Operation Desert Storm in 1990 -1991 as a Captain for the Medical Corps USNR at the Oakland Naval Hospital. Dr. Benson is currently on the U.S. Naval Reserve Duty as a Captain for the USNRR .
